We Will Make NFF Independent – Mohammed Sanusi

Mohammed Sanusi has said that one of the key areas on why the NFF failed last year was getting funds, and because of that they had to rely mainly on the government to provide the funds for them. If we all could recall, the flying Eagles wanted to boycott their AFCON U-20 qualifiers against Sudan in Lagos, due to the fact that they weren’t paid allowances after they came back from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the Super Falcons even won the African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He also said:

“We were not happy with what happened with some of the national teams especially the Super Falcons, but we are working seriously so that such didn’t happen this year,” he said.
“The issue of funding is a serious area we failed in the outgoing year. I have always said it that government cannot do it alone, there are so many projects competing for funds from the government, education, roads and others.
“We are calling on other individuals, the private sectors to come to the aid of football in Nigeria, and also to our sponsors who are yet to fulfill their obligations to the federation to do so, and let’s have a good relationship this year.”
