Governor Obaseki signs Harmonized local govt levies, charges bill into law
Obaseki said that the law would enable the state and local governments capture and access revenues accruable to them.
He commended the House for the speedily passage of the bill which was sent less than a month.
He said that machinery had been put in place to ensure enforcement of the law.
“We are working with judiciary and security agent to ensure success of the law.
“We have put in place a technology to ensure that collection will not be cash, so that we will have efficacy in the collection of the revenue”, he said.
The assured that the revenue collected via the new law would be judiciously used for the development of the state.
He said that a special schedule would be created where taxes collected by the various Local Government would be announced to enable the tax payers see transparency in the tax collection process.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Dr Justin Okonobo, said that the house gave due consideration to all aspects of the bill.
